Lady Riders take on district foe Carthage after last week's successes

“I am extremely proud of how my girls competed tonight,” Coach Lee Ann Lusk said.

Center's Lady Riders kicked off district action Tuesday night at Roughrider Gym against the Carthage Lady Bulldogs with Riders Head Coach Lee Ann Lusk saying she was impressed with her team's level of play.

Center lost three sets, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-17 but continued to play hard and did not give up.

“I am extremely proud of how my girls competed tonight,” Lusk said. “They showed progress and growth after each set.”

Against a talented and seasoned team like Carthage, that says a lot.

“I am excited to see where we go from here,” Lusk said.

The district season opener came after the Lady Riders showed some major successes in play last week.

The Center Lady Riders varsity volleyball team faced two teams in a dual on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Facing both Shelbyville and Hemphill, the Lady Riders were victorious in both games.

In the match against Hemphill, the Lady Riders won three out of the four played sets;

First set: Win 7-25, Second set: Win 21-25, Third set: Loss 26-24, Fourth set: Win 18-25

Against Shelbyville, the Lady Riders were successful three out of five matches:

First set: Loss 23-25, Second set: Win 8-25, Third set: Loss 9-25, Fourth set: Win 19-25, Fifth set: Win 15-11

The girls played nine total sets on Tuesday night,” said Lusk. “And continued to work together to win both games.”

Those games provided the Lady Riders with needed momentum.

Carthage is our district opener and we plan on working hard to achieve our goals we have made this season,” said Lusk.

All of our hard work we have put in during preseason is leading up to this moment,” she said.

The Lady Riders will be facing Palestine at home this Friday for both JV and varsity action with play scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., in Center's second district contest.
