Roughrider baseball district mark at 1-1 at the end of spring break week

The Center Roughriders varsity baseball team hosted the Carthage Bulldogs on Friday, March 15, in a 12-0 loss that evened up their district mark at 1-1.

Coming off of a dominating victory over Huntington on Tuesday, March 12, where they served up a 13-4 win, the Roughriders were confident coming into Friday's ballgame.

Center started the game with Zack Smith on the mound. Smith started the game strong, not allowing a run in the first inning. The bottom of the first had Center going 3 up and 3 down in the batters box. The 1st inning ended with no score on either side.

Carthage took advantage of a series of wild pitches and errors in the top of the second inning, and scored 2 before Center could take back over.

Tyler Herndon started the rotation for the Roughriders at the bottom of the second. Herndon singled on a line drive to right field, this was the only hit for the Center offense on the night. Unfortunately, the Roughriders could not capitalize this hit into a run, and Carthage had the lead 2-0 going into the 3rd inning.

Center continued to struggle defensively throughout the game.

Carthage put up 2 points in the third, one in the fourth, 3 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 3 more in the 7th. Offensively the Roughriders were unable to make anything happen, and the Bulldogs served them a shutout game with the final score Carthage 12 Center 0.

The Roughriders will travel to Hudson on Tuesday, March 19, to take on the Hornets at 7 p.m. Center returns home on Friday, March 22, for a non-district game against Longview.
