Center JV ties with Tatum, 0-0; freshmen bring home a win from Pine Tree

Roughrider varsity travels to Tatum Friday night, Aug. 30, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff

Center High School Roughriders freshmen and junior varsity teams kicked off their seasons on Thursday evening with the JV in a defensive standoff while the freshmen pulled off a win.

Roughrider JV played in Center and hosted the Tatum Eagles junior varsity in a game that ended in a 0-0 tie. Head Rider Coach Scott Ponder said offensive players having an outstanding game against Tatum included Chase Adkison, Ivan Jimenez, Brayden Britt and Braylon Roland.

Also recognized were outstanding defensive players Steven Gipson, Chandler Jones and Ladarius Gipson.

The Roughrider JV next week travel to Jefferson on Thursday, Sept. 5 for a 5 p.m. Kickoff.

Freshman Roughrider Coach James Reyes and team traveled to Longview on Thursday to take on the Pine Tree Pirates. Center came home with a 28-26 victory.

Freshman game notables included Mar-Mar Evans for two rushing T.D.s on runs 80 Yards and 10 Yards. Evans was also credited with two passing TD's — for 50 yards and 47 yards.

For the frosh Riders JaKeyvius Polk was credited with two TD receptions for 47 yards and 50 yards along with one interception.

On defense for the Center freshmen, Kedrin Hinson had one sack whil Omar Preston was credited with a fumble recovery. Roughrider kicker Ler Moo was 4-for-4 on booting PATs through the uprights, according tro Reyes.

Friday night varsity games for Shelby County teams include:

Tenaha at Troup, 7:30pm
Timpson at Hemphill, 7:30pm
