Shelby County cross country teams shine at Lufkin's Coke Classic Invitational

Center, Tenaha teams take top spots for varsity girls & boys

Several Shelby County cross country teams particpated in the Lufkin Coke Classic Invitational Meet held last week with high school varsity, junior varsity and junior high runners placing high.

Runners from Center, Tenaha, Joaquin and Shelbyville participated

For varsity boys, Tenaha runners took fourth place overall out of 22 teams entered. Center boys varsity placed sixth at the Coke Classic with two Roughrider runners taking two of the top three finishing places.

Center Jacob Garcia placed second in the varsity boys 5k with a time of 16:56.1 while close behind was Jesus Gonzalez, in third place with a time of 17:11.8 out of a field of 171 runners.

Tenaha's Oscar Floes placed seventh overall with a time of 18:00.4.

Varsity boys 5k

Individual Results: 

Tenaha — placed 4th out of 22 teams: Oscar Flores 18:00.4; Irvin Barona 18:33.8; Eduardo Flores 18:38.9; Alan Mosqueda 19:50.4; Daniel Loredo 21:00.1 

Center — placed 5th out of 22 teams: Jacob Garcia 16:56.1; Jesus Gonzales 17:11.8; Caleb Garcia 20:13.8; Higinio Zamarron 20:19.9; Raul Rebollar 20:20.8; Freddy Maldonado 21:59.4.

 

Varsity girls 2-mile run

In the varsity girls 2-mile run Center Lady Riders placed third overall out of 19 teams. Tenaha runners placed 11th; Shelbyville placed 13th; Joaquin placed 14th.

Leading the way for Center was Jessica Alvarado placing 17th overall with a time of 14:48.7 out of 157 runners entered. Angie Morales was close behind in 19th place with a time of 14:56.9.

JV girls 2-mile run

in the junior varsity girls 2-mile run Center placed sixth out of 13 teams with Abi Chavez the top placing Lady Rider in 23rd place with a time of 16:16.3.

In the JV boys division, Peyton Montes and Rafael Gonzalez placed second and third overall out of a field of 174 runners entered.I
