The Center Roughriders advance to the first round of Texas prep football playoff action Friday night against Hamshire-Fannett in on neutral territory in Woodville.
The 6-4 Roughriders will take on the 6-3 Longhorns. Hamshire-Fannett has a 2-2 district mark while Center has a 3-1 district record after falling to Jasper 51-20 last Friday.
After cinching the district championship with last week's victory over Center, the Bulldogs are looking forward to their next challenge as they clash with Sour Lake's Hardin-Jefferson with a 1-8 record.
The 4A-2 Region III District standings ended with 4-0 Jasper in first place; Center, 3-1 in district, second place; Shepherd, 2-2, in third place; Huntington, 1-3, fourth place; and 0-4 Tarkington, taking last place.
While the Roughriders struck early in last Friday's game with an 82-yard run by Redd Horace on the first play from scrimmage, the Bulldogs came right back.
Jasper's offensive attack relied heavily on their running game with 483 yards coming on the ground and only 54 yards through the air. The Bulldogs rolled up 537 total yards offense, representing their largest offensive effort of the season.
The Riders passing game has been one of the team's strong suites throughout the season but Jasper held Center to only 119 yards passing for their lowest output of the season.
For the season Center has a pair of players have rolled up more than 2,000 yards offense. Sophomore quarterback Jake Hanson has 2,358 yards with 2,280 of those coming in his passing attack.
Redd Horace, a junior, is credited with 2,087 total yards offense with 2,032 yards coming in his rushing game.
For the Roughriders defense, Jake Liker, a junior, leads the team with 121 tackles to his credit, including 86 solos. Tyler Herndon has been in on 78 tackles, including 46 solo tackles and JaMichael Weathered has 76 tackles for the season with 56 of those being solos.
Jase Bird was also among top tacklers for Center with 71 total to his credit with 47 of those being solo tackles in the regular season.
This Friday's playoff game is set for a 7:30 p.m. Kickoff in Woodville.
