Garcia, Gonzalez post best times of the year at Texas State Cross Country Meet

ROUND ROCK — A pair of Center cross-country runners had their best times of the year at Saturday's Texas UIL State Cross-Country meet held at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock.

Jacob Garcia and Jesus Gonzalez each qualified for the state meet after earning top berths at district and regional meets held recently in Huntsville.

“Jacob and Jesus both ran very well today,” Center ISD cross-country coach Doug Boone said Saturday. “They did not place in the top ten but both had the best times that they've run all year. I was very proud of them.”

In Class 4A, Center's Jacob Garcia, a CHS senior, placed 22nd out of 100 runners entered. Garcia had a time of 16:06.24 in the 5,000-meter run.

Jesus Gonzalez, also a Center High senior, finished 85th in Class 4A with a time of 16:57.23 in the 5,000-meter competition. Doug Boone is the Center ISD cross country coach.

At the district meet held in October in Huntsville, Boone had 15 runners bring home medals in high school and middle school categories.
