Center XC runners shine at Longview Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot Cross Country Meet

Cross country meet held Friday, Sept. 20, at Longview's Lear Park

The Center Riders cross country team had another strong showing late last week at the Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot.

Under the coaching of Doug Boone, head cross cooach, the varsity boys Roughriders took two of the top three finishing spots in the 5,000-meter run with Jacob Garcia finishing first with a time of 16:58.78 while close behind was Jesus Gonzalez, placing third with a time of 17:23.

Other varsity boys helping to cinch the No. 4 spot in team standings in a field of 154 runners, included Benjamin Garcia, 25th, 19:30.54, Eliseo Delacruz, 37th, 19:57.66; Raul Rebollar, 41st, 20:07.90; Higinio Zamarron, 54th, 20:42.24; and Jesus Bustos, 64th, 21:00.92.

In the varsity girls two-mile run the Lady Riders finished eighth out of 15 teams. Leading the Center pack was Adriana Barcenas, with a time of 14:40.76 and placing 32nd out of more than 110 runners. Lady Rider Angie Morales, placed 43rd with a time of 14:54.70; Jessica Alvarado was 46th with a time of 15:02.09; Dulce Chavez placed 52nd with a time of 15:11.44; Gracie Whisenant placed 55 with a time of 15:15=6.23; and Starla Fischer rounded out the field with a time of 23:21.69.

In the JV girls division for the two-mile run the Lady Riders placed 10th out of 14 teams. Sandra Garcia was the top finishing JV runner for the Lady Riders in 27th place with a time of 16:16.86 out of a field of 130 runners. Stephanie Garcia placed 45th with a time of 16:45.99; Abi Chavez was 49th, 16:56.21; Bernice Rojas, 65th, 17:42.19; Maria Alvaredo, 76th, 18:01.50

In the junior varsity boys competition the Roughriders also had a strong showing with six Center runners finishing in the top 50 out of more than 250 JV runners. The Roughrider JV team placed third out of 22 teams entered.

Caleb Garcia placed 7th with a time of 20:09.99; Osvaido Guevara, 16th, 20:55.20; David Cervantes, 22nd, 21:05.78; Omar Aviles, 29th, 21:29.47; Jose Valadez, 21:47.95; Peyton Montes, 48th, 22:08.81; and, Rafael Gonzalez, 104th., 22:42.23.
