Center High, Middle School runners place well at Hudson Cross Country Invitational

The 2019 Hudson Cross Country Invitational had plenty of excitement with area teams having a strong showing, including that by Center Lady Riders and Roughrider runners on Sept. 28.

The Center boys varsity placed 4th out of 13 teams with Roughrider Jacob Garcia placing third out of a field of more than 100 runners while Jesus Gonzalez was close behind in fifth place. Garcia had a time of 16:25.8 while Gonzalez had a time of 17:06.9 in the 5,000 meter run.

Individual results for Center: 3rd place, Jacob Garcia 16:25.8; 5th , Jesus Gonzalez 17:06.9; Jesus Bustos, 24th with a time of 18:51.4; Higinio Zamarron placed 34th with a 19:24.0; and Raul Rebollar had a time of 19:43.0 for a 46th place finish.

On the girls varsity side, Center Lady Riders placed sixth out of 10 teams. Hudson won the overall team competition with 26 points. Central came in second with 82 points and Huntington rounded out the top three with 117 points.

Individual results: Jessica Alvarado, placed 21st out of 83 runners with a time of 14:22.1; Angie Morales, 22nd place, 14:29.7; Adriana Barcenas, 33rd place, 14:55.8; Gracie Whisemant, 35th place, 14:58.9; Dulce Chavez,, 56th place, 15:50.9; and Starla Fischer,81st place, with a time of 20:49.7.

The Center Lady Riders JV had four runners place, including Abi Chavez in ninth place out of a field of 40 JV girl runners with a time of 15:39.2. Individual results: Sandra Garcia placed 19th, 16:18.6; Maria Alvarado, placed 21st; 16:36.1; and Bernice Rojas place 23rd with a time of 16:46.5.

The Center Roughrider JV boys claimed second place with Caleb Garcia taking fourth place and Rafael Gonzalez finishing fifth place.

Individual results: Caleb Garcia 18:47.2, 4th place; Rafael Gonzalez 18:50.9, for a fifth place finish; Jose Valadez, 16th place, 20:10.0; Omar Aviles, 17th, 20:10.3; David Cervantes, 19th place, 20:18.7; Osvaldo Guevera23rd place, 20:28.2; and Benjamin Garcia placed 29th out of the field of 56 runners with a time of 21:36.9.

In middle school girls competition, the Lady Riders placed third out of nine teams.

Individual results: Yuliana Garcia, 11th place, 10:44.2; Jasmine Olivares, 15th place, 10:58.3; Gabby Whisenant, 17th place, 10:07.4; Valeria Cervantes, 43rd place, 11:52.5; Triniti Bell, 44th place, 11:54.9; Yvette Cruz, 62nd place, 12:57.1; Jasmine Arena-Mareos, 84th place, 13:41.6; Kristina Riley, 85th place, 13:48.3; and Andrea Camacho, 87th place with a time of 13:54.2.

There were 109 middle school runners in the meet.

In the middle school boys competition, individual results included Luis Hernandez, placing 34th out of 128 runners with a time of 9:54.5; Edwin Marquez, 51st place, 10:28.7; and Kevin Moran, 60th place with a time of 10:53.6.

Coach Doug Boone's cross country runners are scheduled to run next on Oct. 9 in the Lufkin Coke Classic.
