Steven Douglas (Steve) Parent, age 55, of Houston, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 26th at North Cypress Hospital in Houston.

Visitation for Steve Parent will be held Friday, October 8th from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home, 9926 Jones Road, Houston, Texas 77065.

Funeral services for Steve Parent will be held on Saturday, October 9th at McClelland Community Church (between San Augustine and Shelbyville) Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Chris Collins and Bro. Jon Collins will officiate. Interment at McClelland Community Cemetery.

Steve Parent was born August 3, 1966, in Santa Monica, California to Roger Parent and Doris Carriere. As a teenager growing up in California, he was in motocross. Steve graduated from Royal High School in Simi Valley, California, then attended U.C.L.A. college. In 1986 and 1987 Steve played professional baseball in Sweden. He was an avid Dodgers fan and loved his country. From 1988-1996 Steve was a Navy Seal. During that time, he was awarded two Purple Hearts as a service member.

In 1997 Steve became Postproduction Manager for 20th Century Fox Studio in Hollywood, California, for their animation movie film Anastasia, and he was also involved with Paramount Studio in the making of Independence Day. Later Steve owned Cameras on Site Security Company in Las Vegas, Nevada, before eventually moving it to New York.

He was a Black Belt Sensei in Aikido and taught student classes in New York and Texas.

Steve was an author and in 2020, his self-penned novel, A Father's Voice, was published by Newman Springs Publishing Company of New Jersey

His novel is based on a true story of a father's hard battle to save the life of his unborn child while his wife fought for an abortion with no explanation. Names and places were changed to protect the innocent. The book is selling so great that Steve was recently contacted by a movie production company about a movie deal.

Steve loved to hunt and enjoyed hunting deer in the fresh country air of Shelby County. He loved bow hunting, and loved deep sea fishing in Galveston.

On December 20, 2020, Steve married Janalyn (Jan) Hess at McClelland Community Church. He was a loving husband, and was a loyal attendant of the Met, a non­denominational church in Houston. He is survived by his wife, Jan Parent of Houston; stepson Derek Ferrell of Houston; mother-in-law Dorothy (Doy) Hess of McClelland Community; his father, Roger Parent of Simi Valley, California; brother, Michael Parent of Simi Valley, California; nephew Cameron Parent; nieces Summer, Brittany and Amanda Parent; special cousins Doreen Wescott and Darryl Carriere. Also, sister-in-law Colleen Carls and brothers-in-law Troy Hess and Roger Hess, and his lab "Kraken," who he loved dearly.

Pall bearers will be Derek Ferrell, Tracy Wright, Troy Hess, Brian Collins, James Alvis and Cory Collins.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home in Houston and Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Masks will be required.
