Mary Jean Gann Haley

Mary Jean Gann Haley

Too many times, the value or worth of a person's life is measured by their accomplishments. Awards they have received, entities to which they belonged, or achievements in the business world are rightfully cited as examples of a life well lived. While Mary Jean Gann Haley had many laudable accomplishments in those realms, her most wonderful and satisfying feats did not involve placard or trophy-worthy accomplishments.

She was her dad's love and joy and her mom's enduring angel. For her husband, she was the perfect blend of beauty, elegance, and a gritty frontier woman. To her children, she was a model Christian, loving mother, and determined cheerleader. Her friends knew her to be kind, sincere, and completely trustworthy. To the hundreds of children, she taught in Children's Choir and Bible Study, she instilled the Word of God in their hearts through her beautiful voice and musical lyrics. Her love of music and the Lord rang through the performances of the Adult Choir at First United Methodist Church in San Augustine for decades. Mary Jean Gann Haley was one of the greatest missionaries for so many people, even though she never travelled to the mission fields. Her work through the First United Methodist Church of San Augustine's Missionary Conference has caused an untold number of people to be brought to Christ and placed upon the pathway to Heaven.

While her work in front of congregations of people made her easily recognizable, it was her efforts behind the scenes which were the most impactful. Every person who met her knew she was a Godly woman who wanted the best for everyone. She truly believed everyone was salvageable and worked to ensure they were. She made everyone feel like they were 10 feet tall. Her kindness was a magnet to so many. The greatest testament to Mary Jean Gann Haley comes from the words and actions of all those who knew her best. During the last few days, she was visited by many people expressing their unreserved love for her. Not only their words, but their interaction with her demonstrated the incredible impact she had upon them. She represented love in its purest and truest form. Without exception, she was hailed as the finest lady they knew. She touched people at levels they did not even know they possessed until they met her. She was LOVE!

Even though her flame on this earth has been extinguished, her light shines brightly in all those who knew her. Her impact will last for generations because she was instrumental in bringing so many to her Lord and Savior. She was the best because she was a true servant of God. Mary Jean Gann Haley, you will be missed, but never forgotten. Though we are devastated by your loss, we've gained so much from your presence.
