Kathleen Alford Hering, 88, Hamilton, North Carolina

 

Kathleen Alford Hering (Kathy), 88, died peacefully in her sleep on March 19, 2020 in Greenville, North Carolina.

She was born in 1931 in Center, Texas, to Benjamin Meador Alford and Clara Baker Alford. Kathleen was Valedictorian of Center High School, Center, Texas in 1949 and graduated from  Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in business administration in 1951.
In 1952 she met the love of her life, Lee Hering, while employed with Texaco in Houston, Texas and  they were married in 1953. They had two children, Gregory Lee and Lisa Kathleen.

Kathy and Lee's marriage lasted for 66 years until her death. In the 1960's Kathleen was busy raising their children  while also president of the Houston Chapter, Women's Auxiliary of Certified Public Accountants.
After retirement, Lee and Kathy traveled and lived for a while in Germany, England, and different parts of the United States and she was interested in the history of her English ancestors. She and Lee retired to Arizona and remained there for 12 years before moving to Hamilton, North Carolina.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her half sisters Myrial Reed Hughes and Louise Reed Sheffield, and half brother Robert Reed and others. She is survived by her husband, Lee Hering of  Hamilton, North Carolina, her son Gregory Hering of Huntsville, Alabama, her daughter, Lisa Hering  of Hamilton, North Carolina, granddaughter Nicole Hering, grandson Lucas Hering, both of Huntsville, Alabama, sister and brother-in-law Barbara Alford Clark and John Clark of Irving, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

Her ashes will be laid to rest in the McGregor City Cemetery, McGregor, Texas with a memorial service at a date to be specified. In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to a charity of your choice.
