Dragons fall in fourth quarter to the Bearcats

Head Coach David Benbow says team showing effort

Shelbyville fell in a heartbreaker Friday night in their contest with the Beckville Bearcats. The Dragons looked prime to come away with a win that few had predicted. Beckville was the seen as the overwhelming favorite coming into this one, but the Dragons were in full control of this matchup until things took a turn for the worse in the second half, primarily the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats won the opening coin toss and chose to defer to the second half giving Shelbyville the ball to start the game. Shelbyville received the kick, but they were met with a strong defensive front.

A few short plays later, the Dragons were forced to punt. Now with the Bearcats in control of the football, the Dragons’ defense stood strong and provided Beckville with a three and out series.

And so, the first quarter went on with neither team gaining the upper hand, that is until Shelbyville junior Jaylon Brinson busted the defense wide open on a run that went nearly from goal line to goal line.

After the 90-yard sprint to the end zone, the Dragons’ offense followed up by converting the two-point conversion putting them ahead 8-0 with 2:03 left in the first quarter.
