Free bull riding event slated Saturday at Shelby County Arena

A free bull riding event set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Shelby County Expo Center and Rodeo Arena is expected to draw some of the top young bull riders from several states.

Andy Holloway, coordinator of the event, said about 40 competitors are expected for the Built God Tough Roughstock Series Bull Riding event.

The event is hosted by Still Waters Cowboy Church of Carthage, according to Matt Comer, who said the event is part of the church's outreach. Participants are expected from Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas, he said.

Holloway said competitors from age 11 on up are expected for a chance to win prize money and accumulate points that could lead them to the Built God Tough Finals in Ardmore, Oklahoma on Oct. 6.

He said admission is free and concessions will be available. The arena is located at980 State Hwy 7 E, east of Center. For more information contact Holloway at (903) 754-4123.
