Law enforcement teamwork results in recovering stolen firearms
Teamwork between the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Pct. 3 Constable Roy Cheatwood and Louisiana's DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office resulted in the quick recovery of firearms stolen from a home in the Joaquin area, the SCSO reported Wednesday afternoon.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary call July 30, off County Road 3341 in Joaquin. Upon arrival, officers met with the home owner who stated someone forced entry into the home and stole several guns.
As previously reported Shelby County Constable Precinct 3 Roy Cheatwood made contact with the suspects in the vehicle after being alerted to a situation at Quick Stop in Joaquin.
Cheatwood reported the individuals left the scene and crossed over into DeSoto Parish where they abandoned the vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded by the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. Investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office inventoried the vehicle and located the guns stolen from the home in Joaquin in the trunk of the car.
Cheatwood identified a suspect in the vehicle as having ties to the homeowner in Joaquin. The other suspects have not been identified or apprehended at this time.
SCSO officers said they would like to thank Cheatwood and Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office for assisting with all areas of this investigation. By working closely with Cheatwood, the SCSO officers said they were able to recover the stolen property in one day.
The case is still under investigation, sheriff's officers said.
