Rodney Hammers, 56 of Gary

Funeral services for Mr. Rodney Hammers, 56, of Gary, Texas will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Walker and Rev. John Gradburg officiating.  Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.  Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home.

   Mr. Rodney Frank Hammers was born April 3, 1962 in Pasadena, Texas.  He went to be with his loving Savior on April 20, 2018 in Houston, Texas.  He was one of two children born to the marriage of Frank and Joyce LaVerne Brooks Hammers.  He was raised and schooled in Gary, graduating from Pine Tree High School with the class of 1980.  Rodney would marry the love of his life, Wanda Sue Haberle March 21, 1981 and they raised three children in a loving Christian home and celebrate 37 years of marriage.

 

   Mr. Hammers worked for Luminant as an equipment specialist mechanic for 37 years.  His faith was unwavering, as was his love of God, family and friends.  He loved his church home at Eastside Baptist Church where he was a member for 37 years.  He served on the Gary I.S.D. school board for 12 years, was active in the Panola County Livestock Show and was an honorary F.F.A. member.  Rodney was a happy and fun loving guy that enjoyed life, loved helping others and lending a hand to someone in need.  He liked to fish, hunt, collect, and tinker around with his trucks and treasures.  He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Carl L. Haberle.

   Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Hammers of Gary, children, Amanda Hailey and husband Seth of Gary, Ashley Dickens and husband Brian of Bullard, Brandon Hammers and Fiancé`

Marissa Davis of Temple, sister, Diana Hayes of Gilmer, nieces, Susan Hughes, Sherri Fluellen, Cherri Thompson, and Haley Hammers, grandchildren, Hunter, Kaydence, Aubriana, Kolson, Halen, Aubrey, and Trinity, his loving in-laws, Nana and Pops, Rosanne and Ona Mullenax of Gary, Maw Maw, Cathy Lewis of Santa Fe, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
