Basketball playoffs: Center, Shelbyville and Tenaha advance; Logansport falls
Three Shelby County boys basketball teams continue their climb through the UIL playoffs Tuesday night, but Logansport lost in the Louisiana playoffs.
Here is a summary. We will have complete game stories in this week's print edition of The Light and Champion, which will be available in stores Wednesday afternoon and through home delviery Thursday.
• No. 6 Center defeated Spring Hill Tuesday in the Region 2 Quarterfinals at Tyler Junior College by a score of 59-41.
The Roughriders came out shooting hot, hitting five threes in the first half on the way to a 32-17 lead.
Center now faces Carter, which defeated Wilmer-Hutchins by rallying from 10 points down in the final period to win 81-80. The game will be played 6 p.m. Friday at the TAMU-Commerce Field House. The winner will face the winner of Friday's 8 p.m. game between Carthage and Lincoln in the Region 2 and 4 Final at noon on Saturday.
• No. 4 Shelbyviile defeated Evadale 79-73 Tuesday night at Woodville. Shelbyville trailed 19-18 after the first period and was tied at 35 at the half.
The Dragons now face LaPoynor, which defeated Crawford, 44-39 in the Regional Semifinals 5 p.m. Friday at Leon High School.
The winner of that game will face the winner of the Tenaha vs. Grapeland winner in the Region 1 and 3 Final 1 p.m. Saturday at Leon High School.
• No. 3 Tenaha defeated Woden 62-51 Tuesday at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville in the Region 1 Quarterfinals.
The Tigers now face Grapeland, which defeated Kerens, 68-44 Tuesday night in the Regional Semifinals 7:30 p.m. Friday at Leon High School
The winner of that game will face the winner of the Shelbyville vs. LaPoynor game
in the Region 1 and 3 Final 1 p.m. Saturday at Leon High School.
• Logansport lost to White Castle 71-40 in the third rounds of the palyoffs.
