Joaquin girls beat Chireno; face San Augustine Saturday for final playoff berth
The Tenaha Tigers and Woden Eagles finished tied for first place in 2A District 22 girls basketball. A coin flip gave the district's No. 1 seed to Tenaha.
(Correction: The print Feb. 8 print edition of The Light and Champion incorrectly reported that Tenaha and Woden would play a one-game playoff for first place.)
Timpson finished third in district.
Three teams are vying for the fourth-place position – and the district's final playoff spot: Joaquin, San Augustine and Chireno. A three-way playoff will determine the final playoff team.
Joaquin defeated Chireno tonight, 48-41, at Shelbyville High School. The Rams will play San Augustine at 4 p.m. Saturday in Shelbyville to determine the fourth-place team.
Tenaha opens the playoffs 7:30 p.m. Monday against Alto in Cushing.
Timpson has a 6:30 p.m. Monday game in Wells against Neches.
Woden plays Cushing 6 p.m. Monday at Central Heights.
