Hard freeze alert added to Shelby County

Wind chill can damage exposed skin in less than 30 minutes

The National Weather Service has issued three advisories and two warnings for our area for Tuesday and Wednesday:

Hard freeze warning: Temperatures will drop into the low teens teens from 8 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Wednesday. Take precautions to cover exposed pipes and bring your pets indoors. Also cover temperature-sensitive outdoor plants. A hard freeze can kill or damage crops and vegetation. • Wind Chill Advisory: A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TUESDAY. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. The combination of very cold air and strong north winds will cause wind chill values to fall into the single digits early Tuesday morning.

Winter Storm Warning: This remains in effect until late Tuesday
afternoon for much of Northeast Texas, Southwest Arkansas, and
Northwest Louisiana... 

Winter Weather Advisory: This will remain in effect from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Mixed precipitation is expected. Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the morning commute on Tuesday. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice
accumulations of a light glaze are expected. The combination of very cold air and strong north winds will cause wind chill
values to fall into the single digits early Tuesday morning.

Lake Wind Advisory: The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Lake Wind Advisory, which is in effect until 9 a.m. CST Tuesday. * EVENT...North winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph in the wake of a strong cold front during the overnight and early morning hours. * TIMING...Now until 9 a.m. Tuesday when wind speeds are expected to diminish. * IMPACT...Rough chop on area lakes will create hazardous boating conditions. 

A Lake Wind Advisory indicates that winds will cause rough chop on area lakes. Small boats will be especially prone to capsizing.
