Jaterious Evans signs with SFA

Center receiver to major in business

Center High School senior Jaterious Evans signed papers Wednesday to attend Stephen F. Austin University on a football scholarship. He plans to major in business.

“It isn't too small or too big,” Evans said. “It is the perfect place for me to be. It's also a place where I can go and play a lot.”

Joining Jaterious for the signing were his parents, Emerson and Sherrie; sister, Ieshia; and his brother, Octavious, who just completed his freshman season at Boise State with a Las Vegas Bowl win Saturday over Oregon.

For the Evans family, Jaterious' enrollment at SFA will mean all six of their children are attending college.

“I am very proud – really proud – of our children,” Sherrie said.

His father said he looks forward to being able to see Jaterious continue to play in person. He wasn't able to attend one of Octavious' games this year, but did watch the Boise vs. Oregon game on television.

Jaterious, a wide receiver, is happy to be playing close to home.

“It is going to be good to know I have people there to support me throughout my career,” Jaterious said.

Jaterious, who just hours earlier hit two game-winning free throws as Center defeated No.1-ranked Silsbee in basketball, said he will only play football at SFA.

SFA finished 4-7 in 2017, including 4-5 in the Southland Conference under coach Clint Conque. The team was 5-6 in 2016.
