UIL: Center will drop to 4A-Div. 2; Timpon and Tenaha up to 2A-Div. 1
The UIL has released the attendance Cuttoff numbers for the 2018-2020 academic years, and the new numbers will mean changes for local schools when district realignments are announced in February.
Center High School will drop from 4A-Div. 1 to 4A-Div. 2 along with current district foe Bullard. Carthage, Kilgore, Henderson, Palestine and Chapel Hill will remain in 4A-Div. 1.
On the 2A front, Timpson and Tenaha -- who are playing Thursday night in the 2A-Div. 2 Region 3 championship game, will move up to 2A-Div. 1, joining current 2A-Div. 1 teams Joaquin, Shelbyville, San Augustine and Garrison.
Current 2A-Div. 1 opponents Alto, Price Carlisle and Cushing will remain in Division 1. Wortham, Grapeland, Overton and Mt. Enterprise will remain in 2A-Div. 2.
The cutoff numbers are:

• 5A D1 - 1,840-2,189
• 5A D2 - 1,150-1,830
• 4A D1 - 790-1,149
• 4A D2 - 505-789 (Center has 739)
• 3A D1 - 335-504
• 3A D2 – 225-334
• 2A D1 - 161.5-224 (Joaquin, 199; Shelbyville, 219; Tenaha, 171; Timpson, 180; San Augustine, 211; Garrison, 201; Alto, 200; Price Carlisle, 196; Cushing, 170)
• 2A D2 - 105-161.4
• 1A D1 - 55.5-104.9
• 1A D2 - 55 & below
According to the UIL, the numbers designate where schools land within the UIL's six classes – five of which are now split into two divisions before the postseason. Schools turned in enrollment numbers in October, which foreshadowed what the realigned districts could look like for 2018-2020. Alignment will be completed and announced in February.
