Timpson vs. Tenaha 7 p.m. Thursday at Carthage in history-making all-Shelby County Region 3 football final

Tigers outlast Iola; Timpson routs Grapeland to set up historic meeting

History will be made next week when the football teams from Tenaha and Timpson high schools square off in the UIL 2A-Div. II Region 3 finals.

The game will be played 7 p.m. Thursday at Carthage High School.

The game will mark the first time a regional title will be determined in a matchup of two Shelby County schools. 

The winner of that contest advances to the state semifinals against the Region 4 final winner of the game between Burton and Falls City. Albany and Muenster plays in the Region 2 final and Wellington faces Clarendon in the Region 1 final. 

Tenaha (13-0), the No. 1 ranked 2A team in the state and the District 11 champ, defeated Iola last night, 35-14, to reach its eighth regional final in the past 11 years. Onterio Thompson had three touchdowns for the Tigers. 

Timpson (11-2), the second-pace team team from District 11, defeated District 11's third-place team, Grapeland. Timpson 67, Grapeland 28.

Jordan Osby had six touchdowns for the Bears.
