Timpson plays Bremond 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 24 at Palestine-Westwood High School

Timpson 57, Hull-Daisetta 36 in Thursday's playoff opener.

DIBOLL – The Timpson Bears outlasted the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats, 57-36, in the first round of UIL 2A-Div. II Region 3 on Nov. 16 at Diboll High School.

The Bears had key help from junior Jordan Osby and seniors Gannen Braddock, Jaden Johnson and Brock Behrens.

The Bears (9-2) will travel to Palestine-Westwood High School for a 7 p.m. Friday game against three-time defending state champion Bremond (10-1).

“What can I say, Bremond's a solid football team,” said Timpson head coach Kerry Therwhanger. “They don't have the star athletes they've had the last couple of years, but they have a lot players with a lot of games under their belt because they've played 16 games each of the last two seasons.”

Bremond saw its 49-game win streak snapped Sept. 15 in a 28-21 loss to Milano.

They've respnded with eight straight wins, including last week's 36-6 win over Clarksville.

In that span, they've outscored their opponents 377-87.

Therwhanger said the keys for Timpson will be to play mistake-free and to convert opportunities.

That was something the Bears struggled with in their win over Hull-Daisetta.

“As a team, we played sloppily,” said junior quarterback Jon Grogan. “Missed tackles, missed blocks, dropped balls, unnecessary penalties.

“But with no school this week, we will have more time to focus and fix all of those mistakes. I️ feel confident that this week we will come out to play a smarter and more physical game than we did this week.”

The Bobcats got on the board first on a 15-yard touchdown run by Bryce Fregia. The PAT was no good, leaving the score 6-0.

Throughout the first quarter, the possessions went back and forth until Osby returned a Bobcat punt 65-yards to tie the score at 6-6.

The Bobcats regained the lead on Gavin Villanueva's 5-yard scoring run to make it 12-6.

Timpson tied the game thanks to the defense as Gannen Braddock intercepted Kole Frauenberger's pass and returned it 90 yards to make the score 12-12.

The defense again came through, forcing the Bobcats to punt after four plays. Timpson took advantage of the possession as Osby broke through the line for a 46-yard score. The two-point conversion was successful, pushing the Bears up 20-12.

The Bears extended the lead to 28-12 as Grogan hit Osby for a 38-yard score to close out the first half.

The second half was more Osby, as he scored from 5-yards out to push the score to what seemed like a solid 34-12 lead.

But the Bobcats scored twice on runs by Fregia and Frauenberger as Hull-Daisetta pulled within one touchdown at 34-28 as the third quarter ended.

Timpson put the game away with three scores from three different players: Osby on a 5-yard run, Jaden Johnson on a 37-yard run and Brock Behrens with an interception return for a touchdown.

The Bobcats answered Osby's scored with Villanueva's 50-yard run to make it 42-36, but then Johnson and Brehens sealed the game.
