Timpson volleyball advances to regional tournament
The Timpson Lady Bear volleyball team will face Iola 4 p.m. Friday in the UIL 2A Region 3 Final at Longview High School after defeating Carlisle Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals.
Iola is the District 22 champion. The winner of Friday's match will head to the Regional Finals against the winner of the Region 1 Final between Gary and North Zulch.
Timpson swept Carlisle by scores of 27-25, 25-20 and 25-16 in a matchup of the No. 2 and No. 3 teams from District 20.
Sophomore Kamryn Courtney led the way for the Lady Bears with 10 kills, 12 assists, 12 digs, and an ace. Senior Jasmine Rogers also had a great night with 9 kills, 13 assists, 11 digs, and an ace.
After splitting with Carlisle during the district season, coach James Foster adjusted his game plan to counter Carlisle’s ability to neutralize Kamryn and Jasmine.
Brylee Behrens had 9 digs, 4 kills, and an ace; Libero Sara Duke had 14 digs and Sadie Ramsey had 7 digs on the night.
Carlisle, which finished third behind Timpson in District 22, upset District 18 champion Cumby last Saturday to advance, while Timpson Bears upset No. 8-ranked and District 17 champion Bogata Rivercrest, three sets to two, Thursday night.
Three members of the Timpson team – Madelyn Ramsey, Emily Garcia, and Da'Mya Collins – played with the marching band Monday at the UIL 2A state in the state band finals in San Antonio.
The Bears have been playing the past few weeks without Harlie Ware, who fractured her ankle.
