Center Tennis wins Area Championship

Roughriders down Van 10-5; faces Spring Hill vs. Liberty Eylau winner next

The Center High School tennis team defeated Van Thursday night to win the Area team tennis championship at Jacksonville High School.

Center locked up the win after winning its tenth match just 15-matches into the contest.

The Riders led 5-2 after doubles and winning two out of three very close doubles matches gave the momentum to the Riders going into Singles.

The first four singles matches would split with two wins for each team making it 7-4 with eight singles matches still on the court.

Van pulled out one more singles match, but the Riders would clinch the Victory with three consecutive boys singles wins to make it 10-5. An overall outstanding team performance.

Center beat Van earlier in the year, 10-9.

Center advances to the 4A Region 2 Quarterfinals Tuesday against the winner of Friday's Liberty Eylau vs. Spring Hill. The game will be played at Carthage High School.

Center opened the playoffs Monday, defeating Gladewater, 18-1, in the BiDistrict round of 4A Region 2 Team Tennis.
