1A Logansport dispatches 3A Bossier, 48-21

Defending state champs win 17th game in a row

The Logansport Tigers hosted the Bossier Bearkats in a matchup of undeated teams in the defending 1A state champions and the vistors from the 4A level. Logansport brought a 16-game winning streak into the matchup -- a streak that included the closest game in last year's narrow win at Bossier.

The Tiger defense had only allowed 19 points up to this point in the season. Taking on a 4A team this week with a high scoring wing-T offense was going to be a test.

On Bossier’s first drive they drove the ball down the field 68 yards, calling all run plays and scored the first touchdown. The extra point try was good.

Logansport only took one play to match touchdown with the Bearkats. Tresmin Brown ran 68 yards untouched into the end zone. The extra point try was no good.

On Bossier’s next drive they tried the air game out and senior DB Jerrius Jackson laid a strong hit on the receiver knocking the ball loose. Senior LB LekDarian Turner scooped the ball upon the Bearkat 40 yard line. Logansport's offense executed with precision down to the 2 yard line and Madrid Johnson ran it in for the score. The two point conversion failed.

The Tigers defense continued to show their strength by stopping the Bearkats on their next six drives.

Logansport offense was inspired by the defense and took the ball down the field again. Dalton Shaw connected on on 27 yard touchdown pass when 6-foot-5 John Stephens snagged the ball out of the air in the corner of end zone. The two-point conversion was no good.

As the second quarter began, the Tigers continued their offensive attack driving the ball for 65 yards to the end zone. Jerrius Jackson ran it in from the two, and the two-point conversion was successful.

Shaw and his strong offensive line pushed down the field one more time before the end of the half. Austin Edgar sprinted past defenders and received a bullet pass from Shaw for a 24-yard touchdown pass and the two-point conversion was successful.

The Tigers went into halftime with a 34–7 lead over the BearKats.

The third quarter started kind of flat for both teams resulting in punts for both teams. Logansport stopped Bossier on downs and regained steam on a 66 yd drive with Junior, Madrid Johnson, scoring his second touchdown of the game. The extra point kick by Edgar was good.

Bossier was able to march down the field on their next drive and scored with their deceptive running game. Bearkat extra point was good. Logansport offense responded once more with another 66 yd march down the field. Jerrius Jackson ran it into the end zone from six yards out. The extra point was added by Edgar.

The Bearkats went to the air and surprised the Tigers with a 24 yd td pass. Bearkat extra was good. With high hopes the Bearkats went to the air once more on their next drive. The Tiger defense took that hope away when Austin Edgar intercepted a long pass attempt and ran it back 30 yds.

Sophomore DL Demicko Gray led the Tigers with 13 tackles. Jerrius Jackson had 3 deflected passes and one forced fumble. Nine players for the Tigers defense had at least 8 tackles or more. Logansport Offense was led by Shaw going 12-of-21 passing for 182 yds connecting with Stephens and Edgar for two scores. Tresmin Brown led rushing with 13 carries for 174 yards and one touchdown.

Tresmin Brown stated after the game, “It’s nice to run down the sideline untouched and score when u have a great offensive line putting in the work.” Coach Kevin Magee was extremely satisfied with the win over the 4A Bearkats. “Our execution tonight is what won the game for us.” The Tigers will be at home next week for their first District game against Northwood Lena for their Homecoming.
