LUFKIN DISTRICT PROJECT UPDATES AND PLANS FOR JAN. 13-17

LUFKIN – Construction and maintenance projects are planned throughout the nine county Lufkin District for the coming week. Motorists are urged to obey all traffic control in place throughout these work zones, reduce speed and stay alert for moving equipment and workers.

“As we move into a new year, the Lufkin District continues to work on many projects throughout our nine counties,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer. “We urge motorists to be aware of our work zones and workers who work near the lane of traffic. Slow down and always obey whatever traffic control is in place in and near those work zones.”

ANGELINA COUNTY

US 59 South: Crews will continue to work to improve guardrail to design standards from SL 287 in Lufkin to the Polk County line. Work is scheduled next week within the city of Diboll and at White Oak Creek Bridge, south of Diboll. Lane closures are expected.

US 69 South: Work continues from FM 844 to FM 1270 that will widen the roadway from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway. Crews continue to place flex base. Concrete bridge slabs are scheduled to be poured at ramps between FM 1818 and SH 63. Concrete beams will also be set at the overpass at SH 63. Motorists should expect delays and be alert for flaggers and trucks entering and exiting the work zone throughout the project.

US 69 South: Crews continue to remove timber and burn stumps, brush and roots from FM 1270 to the Jasper County line. This project is designed to continue widening the roadway from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway.

US 69/Denman Avenue: Crews will place barricades and begin work to construct a sidewalk on Denman Avenue North from Chestnut Street to Harbuck Street. Prepare for intermittent lane closures.

SH 103 East: Work is scheduled to pour concrete over the steel sheet pilings that have been set at the Lake Sam Rayburn/Angelina River Bridge to repair erosion damage. Upgrades to metal beam guard fence continue through the project. A temporary traffic signal is in place and a lane closure across the bridge. Motorists are urged to stay alert and expect delays.

SH 7 West: Crews are scheduled to continue mill and inlay from SH 103 West to US 69 North. Lane closures expected.

SH 147: Workers will be removing silt fence and cleaning the project area at the Lake Sam Rayburn Bridge where metal beam guardrail has been upgraded to design standards from just north of FM 3123 to FM 2109. Intermittent lane closures expected.

FM 326: Work is scheduled to cement treat the road base on this project designed to reconstruct existing roadway and widen pavement. Motorists should expect delays and lane closures with a pilot car in place to lead traffic through the work zone.

FM 1475: Work is scheduled to level up the roadway in various locations. Lane closures expected.

Various locations: Crews will work to repair and install signs and patch potholes.

HOUSTON COUNTY

US 287 North: Crews will continue mill and inlay work from SL 304 to the Anderson County line. Motorists should prepare for delays and lane closures.

SH 21: Work continues to widen the sub-grade and cross structures on this project designed to reconstruct pavement and add passing lanes from the east end of the Trinity River Bridge to FM 1280. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and be alert to a temporary traffic signal in place east of Rattlesnake Ranch with one-way traffic.

SH 21: Intermittent lane closures should be expected on this project as crews work to complete the project designed to reconstruct pavement and add passing lanes from 2.3 miles east of FM 2967 to SH 7.

FM 228: Crews are scheduled to trim trees along the right-of-way in various locations.

FM 1272: Work to install sidewalks between the two schools in Grapeland will continue with daily lane closures as crews pour concrete for driveways and headwalls and place sod on FM 1272.

FM 227: Crews are scheduled to begin a bridge replacement project at San Pedro Creek. This section of roadway will be closed to traffic until the project is completed. A detour on FM 2423 is set for motorists to maneuver around construction.

Various locations: Crews will repair signs, clean ditches, and patch roadways.

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY

US 59: Crews are preparing the right-of-way and working on drainage structures on this highway improvement project that will construct additional main lanes, overpasses and access roads from SH 7 to 1.2 miles south of Spradley Street.

US 59: Crews are scheduled to repair an overhead flashing light in Appleby. Lane closures expected.

SH 21: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment after placing culvert extensions designed to upgrade metal beam guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to the San Augustine County line and on SH 21 from the San Augustine line to FM 3448 in Sabine County.

FM 226: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this project designed to upgrade metal beam guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 21 to the end of pavement.

FM 2609: Work is scheduled on traffic signals and curbs and gutters on this project designed to widen the roadway from Raguet Street to North Street (BU 59). This roadway remains closed to through traffic.

FM 2609: Crews are applying flex base, preparing right-of-way and extending structures on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the pavement from FM 941 to the end of pavement. Daily lane closures are scheduled.

FM 1275: Crews are scheduled to repair edges from SL 224 to the end of pavement in various locations. Lane closures are expected.

SL 224: Work is scheduled to place striping from FM 2259 to US 59 and from US 59 to FM 2609 on this project designed to place an asphalt overlay. Daily lane closures are scheduled.

POLK COUNTY

Lake Livingston State Park: Crews are scheduled to continue road, campsite and parking area rehabilitation. Pin Oak Loop in currently closed.

Big Sandy Creek Tributary: Crews continue to work to replace the bridges and approaches at Segno Fire Lane.

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY

SH 21: Crews will continue to place panels on this bridge replacement project at the Attoyac River. Lane closures expected.

FM 711: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the pavement from the Shelby County line to US 96.

FM 1277: Crews are scheduled to repair base in various locations.

FM 95: Crews will complete slope and edge repair in various locations.

County Road 205: Crews are scheduled to place the bridge deck at Black Creek on this bridge replacement project.

SHELBY COUNTY

US 96: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment from US 84 to SH 87 where crews have planed, leveled the roadway and placed a permeable friction course.

FM 1645: Crews are preparing the right-of-way on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the roadway from US 59 to SH 87. Daily lane closures are expected.

SABINE COUNTY

FM 705: Crews are scheduled to repair base in various locations.

FM 1: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment from the San Augustine County line to SH 103 after widening the pavement and upgrading metal beam guardrail to design standards.

SAN JACINTO COUNTY

SH 150: Crews will continue to work on embankment and flexible base in the widened sections of this project designed to reconstruct pavement and add passing lanes from the Walker County line to FM 945 North.

SH 156: Crews are scheduled to repair edges of the pavement in various locations. Expect intermittent lane closures.

FM 224: Mow strips are being installed on this project designed to improve and upgrade metal beam guardrail to design standards from SH 156 North to SH 156 South.

TRINITY COUNTY

FM 2781: Crews are scheduled to level up the roadway in various locations from Pennington to Kennard. Lane closures expected.

Various locations: Work is scheduled to repair signs and patch potholes in various locations.

DISTRICTWIDE

Various locations: Crews are scheduled to place profile markings on various roadways. Motorists should expect some slight delays with this slow-moving work convoy.

Various locations: Work is scheduled to replace various pavement markers throughout the district. Expect delays.

Various locations: Striping is being placed where pavement work has been completed.  No lane closures expected, but motorists could experience slight delays.
