Junior League of Lufkin’s Back to School Bonanza Provides Free Resources to Angelina County School-Aged Children

The Junior League of Lufkin, in partnership with over 35 Angelina County churches, businesses, and service organizations, will hold the 8th Annual Back to School Bonanza on August 11th. During the event, over 3,000 free backpacks filled with school supplies will be provided to Angelina County school-aged children and adolescents in grades Pre-Kindergarten to 12th. In addition to the backpacks and school supplies, participants can receive free haircuts, school uniforms, shoes, and other needed services while supplies last.

“We’ve seen what a positive impact the Back to School Bonanza has had on our community, and we are committed to making it bigger and better each year,” said Emily Grimes, Back to School Bonanza Chair. “We can’t wait to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they receive their backpacks and get ready for another school year. The children are what this event is all about.”

“We’re excited to see Back to School Bonanza grow into a true community event. We are so grateful for our partners who continue to remain dedicated and for our new partners who want to be a part of something that touches the lives of so many in our community. The outpouring of support from our amazing community partners is truly incredible. They make this event possible,” said Grimes.

The Junior League of Lufkin was awarded the top honor given by the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Future Community Impact Award, for Back to School Bonanza at the AJLI 2018 Annual Conference. This award recognizes a Junior League project that concretely illustrates the Junior League tradition of achieving significant community impact through collaboration. “Back to School Bonanza is truly a community-wide effort to provide all students in Angelina County the materials to start school off on the same footing as their peers. We absolutely couldn’t do this project by ourselves, and we are so thankful for the many partners that make this event successful and meaningful for the families of Angelina County,” said Michelle Briley, Back to School Bonanza Community Partner Liaison
