Timpson Bear Band reaps rewards of practice
The Timpson Bear Band under the direction of Rhonda Daniel is back at rehearsals fresh from bringing home top state honors in San Antonio in July.
The Timpson Bear Band won the number one ranking in Texas at the Association of Texas Small School Bands Outstanding Performance competition, according to Daniel.
“This is the fifth consecutive year for us to advance to state in this competition, and the second time in three years that we have won it,” Daniel said.
In June the Bear Band's concert selection “La Madre de los Gatos” took first place in area competition and advanced to the state competition in San Antonio in July.
For the upcoming 2018-2019 school year, the band started rehearsals on Aug. 1. Daniel is looking forward to another outstanding year for the members.
“Thanks to all of the students that worked hard to make 2017-2018 such a great year for the Bear Band,” she said.
At the ATSSB competition in San Antonio the band played a selection by Brian Beck titled “La Madre de los Gatos.” Behind Timpson in the competition were Union Grove High School placing second; San Saba High School placing third; and Honey Grove High placing fourth.
Also from Shelby County placing in the competition was Shelbyville High School under the direction of Deshmond D. Johnson. Shelbyville placed 11th out of 15 schools making it to state.
