Timpson Bears takedown Beckville Bearcats, 46-3
Last Friday, the Timpson Bears played their final home game. This game also marked Senior Night for the Bears.
This year, Timpson football has seven graduating seniors: Jordan Osby, Jon Grogan, Shykeem Washington, Nickteao Scourton, Tim Adams, Landen Dunavant, and Manwell Caraway.
The seniors were melancholy about it being the last game they would ever play at John Herbert Eakin Stadium, but they were also determined that it would not be their final game of the season. Timpson is in what has been called the toughest 2A district in the state. The Bears knew that it would be a difficult run to make it to the playoffs, but this team never doubted that they would find a spot.
Timpson knew that they were in a win or stay home situation in this game. The last game the Bears played ended in a narrow one-point loss to Linden-Kildare. Timpson knew after this game they had one shot to find a seat in playoffs.
If they beat Beckville, they were going. The Bears took advantage of a late bye week to prepare for their showdown with the Bearcats. Although Timpson was off last Friday, Bears fans payed close attention to the scores as they came in.
When it was announced that Tenaha had suffered an unexpected loss to Joaquin, Timpson fans knew that this had implications for them as well. Now, not only did Timpson have to win for the Bears to advance, Tenaha had to beat Linden-Kildare as well.
Timpson had two things in their favor. The team was fresh after a bye week, and they had home field advantage. Adding to the home team advantage was the fact that the Timpson field had received a lot of rain making the field wet and muddy.
