Lady Bears take down Gary to advance in playoffs in Oct. 19 matches

The Timpson Lady Bears volleyball team swept the Gary Lady Bobcats team in three games on Friday, Oct. 19.

Timpson hosted the Lady Bobcats, in their last home conference matchup. Timpson ISD was especially excited for this final home game, this was the first event hosted in the new collegiate event center.

The Lady Bears took the floor in the beautiful new stadium. Timpson came into this match fresh off of a BYE on Friday Oct. 12, and a hard-fought win on Tuesday, Oct. 16, against Shelbyville.

Head Coach Foster said he “knew that they would be slow at the beginning, but with the new gym, and the environment, the girls handled it well.”

The Lady Bears were prepared to dominate. They swept the Bobcats in three matches.

The community was excited to cheer on the Lady Bears in their final home game for Timpson in conference play. To add to the excitement, the Lady Bears had the honor of hosting the first event to be held in the new Collegiate Stadium.

As the Lady Bears took the court, the fans were energized to watch their winning varsity volleyball team in this matchup. This was senior night for Timpson.

Timpson Lady Bears honored 5 seniors who are graduating this year. Sara Duke (L,DS) Madelyn Ramsey (DS) Emily Garcia (MB) Tela Etievant (manager) and Tyciuna Earl (Manager).

The Lady Bears then took the court for the matchup. Timpson had a slow start, with the Bobcats leading the bears by 6 points in the first match. The Lady Bears rallied and came back to win the set 20-25. Timpson found their groove and dominated the next two matches winning both sets 25-14.

This win over the Bobcats secures the TIMPSON team for second place in district rankings.

However, Coach Foster commented “we are not thinking about second” “We still have a chance for a district championship on Tuesday, if we can beat Beckville we will split it. It is not tied up yet... we think we still have a shot on Tuesday, we go to Beckville...we are 10 and 1...They are 10-0...we definitely have a chance to tie it”.

The Timpson varsity Lady Bears look forward to their playoff matchups.
