Tenaha Varsity boys defeat Joaquin
On Friday January 3, the Tenaha Tigers Varsity boys basketball team traveled to Joaquin, Texas to face the Rams. After a long fought game, the Tigers were victorious with a defeating score of 84 - 28.
The first points of the game were put up by Tenaha Tiger #1, setting the score to 2 - 0. #1 continued to put up six more points during first period; followed by #10 who also put up six points and #2 adding two points, making the end of first period 7 Rams, 17 Tigers.
#2 and #10 continued to throw points on the board throughout the second period. The score was eventually 30 - 10, when #22, #5 and #10 scored 2 points back-to-back; the score by the end of period two was 10 Rams, 36 Tigers.
Period 3 was fast and quick, Tenaha racked up 26 more points, the score being 19 - 62. By the time the fourth period was over, the Tigers had 84 points and Joaquin 28.
“I thought the kids had great energy,” said head coach Greg Jenkins. “At girls’ halftime when we were warming up - I was worried they were going to be flat. I had a little friendly chat with them and told them, ‘Every night you’re playing District 2A, you gotta bring it. Especially when you’re on the road.’ Joaquin’s got a good team and I was pleased with the kids,” he said.
