Center Lady Riders to take on Fairfield in first round of basketball playoff action
The Center Lady Riders first playoff game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday Feb. 17, when they take on Fairfield High at Rusk High School.
The Lady Riders capped their regular season game with a victory on the road this past Friday, Feb. 7, against the Hudson Hornets, 59 – 40.
Head basketball coach for the Lady Riders, Doug Boone, said he was pleased with the way the Center team played, especially in the second half.
“I thought that we finished the game better than we started. Hudson had nothing to lose and competed very well against us,” Boone said.
With seven minutes on the board in the third quarter, the Lady Riders pushed ahead of the Hornets by two points, picking up the pace of the game. The score sat at 26-24, with the Lady Riders having a slight lead.
Jakayla Weathered, Alex Patton and Ja’Kayla Parks all took control of the game in the second half, pushing the Lady Riders beyond Hudson.
“Kiddra Harper also did well hitting four 3-point shots during the game,” said Boone.
After a victorious turnout for the Lady Riders, Boone is excited for the potential the team has as they wait to see what comes next.
The address for Monday's playoff game at the Rusk Coliseum is 495 Eagle Drive, Rusk.
This is the second consecutive year the Lady Riders have advanced to the playoffis. Boone said he was not certain how long it has been since the last girls basketball tear prior to last year advanced to playoff action.
