Center High Chaparrals instruct, mentor young girls on performing

Chaparrals donate proceeds from camp to St. Jude's Hospital

There was a little apprehension mixed with a lot of excitement prior to the football game at Center's Roughrider Stadium Friday night as about 50 young women took to the field for a performance of the Mini Chaparrals.

The girls, in grades pre-K through fifth grade, had been mentored and instructed by members of the Center High School Chaparrals earlier in the week and were rewarded with an opportunity to perform with the Chaparrals doing a pom routine they learned at camp while being led by the Chaparrals at Friday's game.

The $25 registration fee paid by campers will be donated to St. Jude's Hospital, organizers said. The campers had been meeting at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center after school Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
