Shelbyville U.I.L. debate competes in Austin

Shelbyville students Eli Taylor, Hallie Merriman, Aubree Camp, and Ava Silva competed in the U.I.L. cross examination debate state tournament in Austin on March 14-15. Ava Silva was awarded the third highest speaker award in the state on the first day of competition and Ava and Aubree finished third overall in the state on day two. In cross examination debate, students and coaches research and present solutions to real world policy issues. The 2021-22 topic was, Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States. Shelbyville Speech and Debate is coached by Emily Sowell and Crystal Harrison.
