Shelbyville bands host Spring Concert on Monday, May 20

Shelbyville bands are under the direction of Deshmond Johnson and Kasi Trent-Ashley

The Shelbyville Dragon Bands presented their Spring Concert on Monday, May 20, at the high school gym.

Under the direction of Deshmond Johnson, band director, and assistant Kasi Trent-Ashley, the sixth grade beginner band, the Shelbyville Middle School Band and the Sweepstakes Award Winning High School Dragon Band each performed.

Among major accomplishments of the past year for the high school band were being state winner of the 2018 OPS March; third place honor band for 2019; 6 UIL Twirler solo/ensemble — 1st Division; and Dragon Drill Team Superior Performance with the Kilgore College Rangerettes, according to Johnson.

He also said the band had three All-Region band members; one All-Area band member; 51 first division ratings in Solo/Ensemble competition; and 16 State Solo/Ensemble qualifiers. Also, a Superior rating in the UIL Marching Contest; Superior ratings in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest; and the UIL Sweepstakes Award, Johnson said.
