Center High School graduate Dean Mize shares first-hand account of rescues

He was among first boats responing to Hurricane Harvey devastation

Center High School graduate Dean Mize reluctantly became one of the early iconic images of the rescue effort during Hurricane Harvey, when a photographer captured an image of Mize cradling a three-week-old baby he rescued after nearly 12 hours of effort.

Mize downplayed being at the Center of media coverage, humbly accepting it as part of God's plan. He was quick to point out that there were many people from Shelby County involved in the effort.

Here is the video we did with Mize Wednesday at the Bounds AV Studios in Center.

The Light and Champion is trying to collect the stories from those who selflessly went into harm's way to help the rescue effort.
