Joaquin incumbent mayor defeated; trio of incumbents in Timpson retain council seats

Incumbent Joaquin Mayor Pat Gray was defeated in Saturday's municipal election by challenger Bill Baker.

Baker had 55 votes to Gray's 29.

With two Joaquin ISD Board of Trustee seats up for election, Jeff Hamilton and Jeff Cater were the top vote recipients in a three-day race and claimed the board positions. Hamilton had 168 votes; Cater, 156; and Kelly Brooks placed third with 53 votes.

In Timpson, five candidates vied for three city council seats with three incumbents retaining their places. Tiffany Collins led the voting with 86 votes; Charleston Johnson had 73 votes; and Kyle Allen tallied 56 votes.

They were each reelected to two year terms running from May 2019 through May 2021.

Rounding out balloting but failing to gain a seat on the Timpson City Council were Ryan McDonald with 42 votes and Willie Woods with 29 votes.
