Shelby Savings Bank's Ed Johnson Nominated for Emerging Leader Award

Local Banker Ed Johnson Nominated for Emerging Leader Award

Shelby Savings Bank Senior Vice President and Chief Loan Officer Ed Johnson has been nominated for Texas Bankers Foundation’s Emerging Leader Award.

Johnson was nominated by President and CEO Will Lucas.

Johnson has served as senior vice president at Shelby Savings Bank since 2010. Prior to that, he served as vice president and as a loan officer. Before becoming a banker, Johnson was a county extension agent for Newton County.

“Ed’s experience as a bank leader as well as his civic experience have contributed to his leadership ability,” Lucas said. “Ed has a strong presence in each group he joins and quickly becomes recognized as the person who is willing to take the lead when needed.”

Johnson has served as president of the local Rotary Club, the local Ducks Unlimited Chapter and currently serves as ambassador for the Shelby County Houston Go Texan committee.

He graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU, graduated from Texas Bankers Association’s Management Development program and has a master’s degree in agriculture and bachelor’s degree in animal science from Stephen F. Austin State University.

The award was created this year by the Texas Bankers Foundation in partnership with the Texas Bankers Association Bank Leadership Council to honor bankers who have had a positive impact in the banking industry and are expected to become a leader in their bank.

To be honored, bankers must have five years of experience in banking, be an employee of a TBA-member banking institution and be nominated by the bank president, CEO or board chairman.

The Texas Bankers Foundation recipients will honor the Emerging Leader Award recipients at a luncheon at the Texas Bankers Association Convention in Austin on May 2. Three to five bankers in Texas are expected to earn the Emerging Leader Awards this year.
