Suspect arrested in pawn shop burglary

Jerrad D. Kinney charged with burglary of a building, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest, resisting arrest and aggravated assault against a public servant

Center Police Department officers last week arrested and charged Jerrad Dewayne Kinney, 33, of Center, with burglary of a building, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest, resisting arrest and aggravated assault against a public servant in connection with a burglary of a pawn shop, according to a report filed by CPD Detective Nicole Faulkner.

A Center police officer observed a black male suspect standing next to a restaurant holding an assault rifle about 11:53 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 8. As the officer exited his patrol unit he advised the suspect several times to drop the weapon.

The suspect took off running, according to police, and the officer began to pursue the suspect on foot when he observed the suspect had another weapon in his other hand. When the suspect rounded a corner the officer lost sight of him.

However, the officer located the suspect a short time later hiding in some bushes at which time he was arrested. Officers located two more handguns in the area where the suspect had been hiding.

Officers observed all the recovered guns contained pawn shops tags from Bob's Pawn and Gun. Officers then traveled to the pawn shop on Hurst Street and discovered it had been burglarized.
