Shelby County Historical Society hosts author

The September meeting of the Shelby County Historical Society held Tuesday featured Dr. Jodi Edward Ginn as the guest speaker.

His topic was "East Texas Troubles: The Allred Rangers' Cleanup of San Augustine." This is the story of a rural community's extrication from the grip of a vicious criminal gang who built their power by exploiting institutionally marginalized African Americans.

Ginn revealed a multifaceted history of the reform of the Texas Rangers, and of an unexpected alliance between the legendary frontier lawmnn and black residents of the Jim Crow South.

He also held a book signing at the Shelby County History Museum.
