Shelby County Chamber Ambassadors host ribbon cutting at The Smoke House
Smoke House owner Kenneth Walker, Sr., and Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors hosted a ribbon cutting for the recently opened dining spot on Friday, Jan. 10.
The Smoke House is located at 1475 Loop E in Center across the road from Lakeside Assisted Living Center and is a new member of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce.
Walker operates the restaurant along with his wife Polue Walker and their son, Kenneth Walker, Jr., and staff. He said he brings years of restaurant and barbecuing experience to the new location.
“I used to run the smoke house at Harry's,” he said. “This will taste as good or better.”
The Smoke House features a variety of smoked meats, including ribs, chicken, pork, beef, pork sausage and hot links
“In addition to those, we also have fish and shrimp plates,” Walker said. The fish and shrimp plates are served with hushpuppies and either fries or coleslaw.
Sandwich offerings include chop beef, sliced beef, rib sandwiches and more.
Available on an al carte basis are boudain, barbecue baked potatoes, a steak potato, hot links and ham. The Smoke House also has sausage/hot link wraps, hamburgers and cheeseburger.
All plate meals are served with two sides, with options that include potato salad, coleslaw, or baked beans. Walker said all meals can be prepared to go.
Daily specials may include catfish, greens, rump roast with gravy, mac and cheese or pork chops.
The location is open from 10 a.m. — 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, please call (936) 598-9689.
