Perry Sampson Park renovation efforts advance with committee's help
The committee of residents interested in seeing the major renovation and upgrade of Perry Sampson Park said they feel their voice and concerns are starting to be acknowledged.
Members said were happy to see Perry Sampson Park become a priority in the City of Center's recently developed long range parks and recreation plan. That plan is part of a grant application package being forwarded to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on behalf of the city.
Nicole Ellington and Jeremy Small are serving as chairs of the Sampson Park committee.
Ellington said the park has been long neglected.
“Actually we started a while back trying to get the park renovated because it needs a lot of repairs,” she said. “We're looking for something positive in the community for our youth, to be able to be within walking distance.”
Ellington said some of the playground equipment at the park was what she remembers playing on when she was a young child about 50 years ago.
“We're trying to go about things the right way” in working with city leaders, she said. Small said Ellington helped form the committee now meeting regularly to bring about improvements at Perry Sampson Park.
