One way direction on Elliott Street reversed on temporary basis
City officials have reversed the traffic direction on the block-long stretch of Elliott Street located on the back side of Shelby Savings Bank effective this week on a temporary basis.
The move is designed to help ease traffic being detoured off of San Augustine Street during construction work going on as a part of the downtown Center square streetscape project.
In the past, one way traffic on Elliott was allowed off of Shelbyville Street leading to parking behind Shelby Savings and to Austin Street. With the change, now one way traffic is allowed from Austin Street heading to Shelbyville Street.
As part of the construction detour, traffic had been routed down a dogleg to Austin Street and onto Selma Street to have access to Shelbyville Street.
The Center City Council approved the change at a Monday evening meeting. Temporary signs have been placed at the intersection of Elliott and Shelbyville streets while a sign on Elliott Street from Austin Street has been covered.
