Lake Pinkston area home fully involved in flames when firefighers arrive
A tragic fire destoryed the long-time West Shelby County residence of Linda Barbe on Sunday afternoon.
As a steady breeze and a dark gray plume of smoke were seen from CR 1211 and traffic along West Highway 7. West Shelby County Volunteer firefighters responded to the residential fire call about 4:33 p.m. Sunday arriving to find a two-story home fully engulfed in flames.
The home at 1648 County Road 1211 was off of Highway 7 west of Center and was located past Lake Pinkston on CR 1211 at the "Bar-B" ranch.
West Shelby VFD was assisted by Center Fire Department firefighters who rushed to the scene with tanker trucks and other units. Tanker trucks were seen arriving and leaving the scene as they refilled their tanks at the Lake Pinkston water treatment plant nearby.
Family, friends, neighbors and passersby stood by on the road watching helplessly at the home burned to the ground, apparently a total loss. Family members of resident Linda Barbe said no one was home at the time the fire was reported, but they said there had been people there as recently as 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
No injuries were reported as firefighters continued on the scene into the early evening hours Sunday.
