First Responders honored with luncheon
Shelby County First Responders were honored with a luncheon Friday, May 20. The event held at the Center ISD Transportation department was conducted by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and presented by Badders Law Firm.
All first responders from law enforcement, medical aid, the fire department, road crews, and more were honored at the event that has been a tradition for approximately 30 years. Originated by Center ISD, “It started out as hamburgers," said Shelby County Chamber of Commerce President Deborah Chadwick. According to Chadwick, the ideal for a luncheon was the brainchild of Billie Sue Payne who, at the time, did community relations for the Center ISD.
According to Center ISD Transportation Director and Safety Coordinator Amanda Kirby, they usually feed from 100 to 150 people. Kirby said, "We just appreciate everything that they do for us and Center ISD."
While Center ISD started the event, the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce eventually became involved and has conducted it over the years. Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Director Deborah Chadwick said, "I love this event because we are honoring our first responders who do so much to keep us safe."
Chadwick expressed the chamber’s thanks the businesses that helped sponsor the event. The presenting sponsor was Badders Law Firm. Other sponsors included Focused Care of Center, Spartan Structures, Specter Inc., Baldwin Tree Service, Farmers State Bank, H& R Block, McWilliams & Sons A/C & Heating, and Ray Jones Chevrolet.
