Earthquake reported near Timpson on Tuesday morning

The United States Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center on Tuesday confirmed reports of an earthquake of a 3.2 magnitude about 4.3 miles northwest of Timpson about 10:06 a.m.

The epicenter was reportedly about 3.1 miles below the earth's surface, the center reported. The USGS reported the quake's center was about 16 miles from Carthage.

A 3.2 magnitude earthquake can be felt nearby but usually only causes minor damage, USGS reports. Earthquakes of between 5.5 and 6.0 may cause slight damage to buildings and other structures, the center said.
