Roughriders fall to Mexia in bi-district playoff action, 71-51

TYLER — The Mexia Blackcats rallied from six down to up by eight in a span of four minutes in the first half en route to a 71-51 victory over Center on Tuesday in a Class 4A bi-district boys basketball game at Tyler Junior College's Wagstaff Gymnasium.
Mexia (23-5) advances to play either Waco La Vega or Midlothian Heritage in the area round later this week. The Roughriders end their season at 13-21.
Center led 11-5 in the first quarter but the Blackcats went on a 14-0 run that was topped off by a free throw by Jaden Proctor for a 19-11 lead with 6:59 on the clock in the second quarter.
Jalen Busby, who hit three 3-pointers, led Mexia with 21 points. He was followed by Prince Banks (15) and Trey Holdman (12). Both Banks and Holdman each drained two treys.
Makel Johnson led the Roughriders with 13 points, including a 3-pointer.
Jamarrion Evans added 11 points and a trey. Zacc Smith swished a 3-pointer and he ended up with five points.
Others scoring for Center were Malik Patton (8), Jumarcus McCollister (8), Deskyshen Crockett (4) and Dean Lester (2).
Patton also had two 3-pointers
Center was 10 of 13 at the free throw line with the Blackcats hitting 15 of 24.
Others scoring for Mexia were Proctor (9), Lemarion Miller (8), Jabryan Busby (4) and Tray Jones (3). Mexia led at halftime, 29-22 and 44-35 at the end of three.
