Log truck overturns on FM 139 about 4 miles off Texas 87

Traffic was being diverted while cleanup efforts were ongoing

Emergency workers were on the scene Thursday afternoon working the wreckage of an overturned 18-wheeler log truck on FM 139 about four miles off of Texas 87.

The wreck was reported about 3:15 p.m. Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, Shelby County Sheriff's Office officers, Allegiance EMS, and firefighters from the Center Fire Department and the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department were all on the scene as traffic was being diverted off of FM 139 between Welch's Store and Huxley.

The westbound truck lost its load of logs, which were on the roadway, in a ditch and in an adjacent pasture. The cab was lying on its side.

Initial reports from the scene indicated the driver was trapped inside but later reports indicated he was able to get out.

Involved in the one-vehicle crash was a 2003 International semi-trailer truck traveling west on FM 139 at an unsafe speed. Mark Lathan, 56, of Nacogdoches, was identified as the driver who was not hurt.
