Tyson Foods Deploys Disaster Relief Support Following Historic Winter Weather
One Million Meals to be Distributed to Team Members and Storm Victims
SPRINGDALE, Ark. — February 22, 2021 — Tyson Foods is providing more than one million meals, bottled water and other supplies in response to last week’s severe winter weather that impacted Texas. Tyson Foods will coordinate with local authorities and disaster relief partners to establish a coordinated response to deliver these items to Tyson team members and storm victims.
Donated product will be distributed in Amarillo, Carthage, Center, Dallas, Haltom City, Houston, North Richland Hills, Seguin, Sherman and Vernon, Texas.
“The impact of this historic storm is still being felt and we’re deploying resources where we can make the most impact for our team members and Tyson communities,” said Debra Vernon, senior director, corporate social responsibility. “This response wouldn’t be possible without the support of our disaster relief partners and customers, who are all volunteering time and resources to make sure our response is as successful as possible.”
The company is deploying tractor trailer loads of product totaling more than 250,000 pounds, or the equivalent to one million meals, in addition to bottled water to impacted communities.
Tyson Foods Natural Disaster Preparedness Team is also closely following the impact of the winter storm in Arkansas and preparing resources to respond in the company’s home state.
Throughout out the company’s history, our team members have always been quick to respond when disaster strikes in or near our communities. In April 2012, we unveiled a new tool for use in disaster response. As part of Tyson Foods’Meals that Matter® disaster relief program, the company outfitted a 53-foot semi-trailer with enough refrigerated space to store up to 20,000 pounds of product for initial response, and dry storage to transport supplies to set up a feeding site and support for Tyson cook teams. The Meals that Matter is capable of distributing more than 100,00 meals per day to victims of disaster, first responders, volunteers and Tyson team members.
