From parades to a puppet show, there's a lot going on in Shelby County

THURSDAY, DEC. 5….

7TH ANNUAL TASTE OF THE HOLIDAYS

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors are hosting the 7th Annual Taste of the Holidays, presented by Shelby Savings Bank. Come join us for an eclectic culinary sampling and dining experience on 

Thursday, December 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the John D. Windham Civic Center. Tickets will be on sale beginning Monday, November 12th and will be available to be purchased at Shelby County Today, The Light and Champion, the Shelby County of Commerce office or from any Chamber Ambassador.  Space is limited and advance tickets are $15 per person. No tickets will be available at the door. Those showcased in the exclusive Taste of the Holidays are local chamber member restaurants, caterers, florists and other specialty businesses.

SANTA’S CHRISTMAS PARADE

Center's annual Santa's Christmas Parade begins at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7. Due to the construction on the downtown square, the Parade route will be slightly altered.

Once the Parade gets to the downtown square, participants will continue on Shelbyville Street and turn left onto Cora Street. The Parade will continue on Cora Street until Crockett Street where participants will turn left and left again onto Logansport Street heading back to the Square. Once participants come to either

George Ihlo Drive, Porter Street or Tenaha Street,  they may turn right and return to their starting point. Plan on spending the day on the Square to shop and enjoy the Parade. Shops will be open and many will be having their Christmas Open Houses.The Parade will be followed by Christmas at the Rio featuring a performance by Center High School theater students.

EAST TEXAS CHOPPER GUYS ANNUAL TOY RUN AND FOOD DRIVE

East Texas Chopper Guys Annual toy run and food drive will be held on December 7th in downtown Joaquin. Gift bags will be given to the first 75 children. Bike show kicks off at 10 a.m, Raffle and Auction to be held after the parade in downtown Joaquin at 3 p.m.

 Bike entry must participate in the parade. $10 entry fee or toy or canned goods.

 Awards will be announced at 5 p.m. All proceeds go to Joaquin Christian Services and will be used to help families  in Shelby County. Please come out and help support this event. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

The 12th Annual Breakfast With Santa hosted by Xi Alpha Delta Rho – Saturday, December 7, at 9 a.m. at the Windham Civic Center. A $15 dollar donation includes: breakfast, making reindeer food, 4x6 picture with Santa, face painting and pictures in the Boom Boom Photo Booth. PUPPET SHOW — SNOWBOUND IN EAST TEXAS

Puppet Wise Productions proudly presents Snowbound in East Texas; a foot stompin’ Holiday puppet show! The puppet show will be Saturday, December 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library and is sponsored by the friends of

Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library. 

 

SATURDAY, DEC. 7….

CHRISTMAS AT THE RIO

Christmas at the Rio, a holiday program by the Center High School theater department will be

presented before the Parade. The Rio box office will open at 4:00 p.m and the performance will begin

at 4:30 and will be done by 5:15, which will be plenty of time to find a spot to watch the Parade. The

Rio concession will be available at 4:00 for the show audience and/or for anyone getting ready for the

Parade. Following the Parade, the Rio will be showing the “Last Christmas” a romantic Christmas film.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 8 ….

THE CHRISTMAS EXPRESS” MUSICAL PRESENTED BY CHILDREN’S CHOIR

The Children’s Choir of First Baptist Church, located at 117 Cora, will present the Christmas musical, “The Christmas Express” Sunday, December 8 at 10:15 a.m.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 8….

CENTER POLICE DEPARTMENT’S BLUE SANTA

The Center Police Department's Blue Santa program is getting ready to load the sleigh and needs your help. Blue Santa is asking

 for donations of new toys, books, or clothes for all ages of boys and girls. Monetary donations are also welcomed. Mark your Calendars for Cookies and Cocoa with Santa for December 8th 2-4 p.m. Enjoy all your favorite treats, and Free Pictures with Santa,

 and don’t forget to bring Santa a toy to donate. Every person that brings a gift gets entered into a drawing for a 32 in TV and a DVD player.

PRAISE 2019

Shelby County Outreach Ministries is gearing up for Praise 2019.

 It will be held on December 14th at 6 p.m and will feature choirs

 and youth groups from around the community! There will be singing, 

silent auctions, live auctions, door prizes and refreshments! We will also give recognition to our partners and loyal churches that support our ministries. It will be held at the Senior Nutrition Site on Loop 500 in Center. Tickets for the event will be $10 each.

2019 LITTLE MISS MERRY CHRISTMAS AND MISTER HAPPY HOLIDAY PAGEANT

24th Annual 2019 Little Miss Merry Christmas and Mister Happy Holidays Pageant December 14, 2019 in Center.

Registration 9 a.m and Showtime 10 a.m. At Center Junior High School on Kennedy St.

No experience needed! All you need is your favorite Christmas, Holiday or Winter Wear.

TIMPSON CHRISTMAS PARADE

Timpson Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 14th at 10AM. This year’s theme will be Christmas in Texas. This Christmas Parade is a joint venture with Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Timpson, Timpson High School, Timpson Volunteer Fire Department, Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service and our towns stores and businesses. Special thanks to Joyce Moore and Marilyn Corder for making it happen. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trophies that will best fit this year’s theme, Christmas in Texas. Line up at Timpson school starting at 9:30.  Everyone and anyone is invited to be in the parade and we hope our community will be there to enjoy.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 15….

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH PRESENTS “FIRST CHRISTMAS”

The Worship Ministry of First Baptist Church, located at 117 Cora, will present “First Christmas”, a holiday gift to the community, Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. The production will feature several choirs, 

a living nativity, and all your favorite Christmas songs.

 

TUESDAY, DEC. 24….

FIRST BAPTIST COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE

First Baptist Church, located at 117 Cora, will host a Community Christmas Eve Candlelight service at 6 p.m on Tuesday, December 24.
